THE SIDER CUP – A HARBOR HILLS TRADITION BY NIKKI HOFFMAN

This is the season of traditions, and Harbor Hills has a few of its own. Thirty-one years ago, the Sider Cup was created as a tribute to the Ryder Cup. Two golf members, Bram Decker and Ray Goldwire, established an event that would be fun for current members and welcoming for new ones.

The first Sider Cup took place in 1994. Our entire Harbor Hills golf community still gathers to enjoy this 10-day event. Don’t miss the colorful cart parade on Saturday, October 4.

Jay Delcamp is the captain of the Blue team, and Lee Bowers is the captain of the Red team. Their respective co-captains are Brad White and Paul Rivera. Pairings will be announced at the Captains' Dinner on Monday, October 6.

MGA President Keith Hale explains that the three-day matches start Wednesday, October 8, with a four-ball/better ball format. The second round is an alternate-shot format on Friday. The final round is a single-match format followed by a celebratory banquet on Sunday, October 12.

Our ladies are an essential part of Sider Cup activities. The Ladies' Party takes place at the club on Thursday, October 2. Barb Bowers and Terry Delcamp are hosting. The annual Ladies Red/Blue Golf Tournament kicks off with a shotgun start on Thursday, October 9.

Speaking of traditions, seating is open for Harbor Hills’ special Thanksgiving buffet. My family never misses these celebrations, and this year is no different. The buffet is available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. It features all the traditional favorites and more. The stunning view from the dining room makes this holiday special. Call 352-753-7000 for reservations.
