HARBOR HILLS COUNTRY CLUB TENNIS NEWS BY NIKKI HOFFMAN

RON EDDY

Calling all racquet sports enthusiasts! The competitive spirit thrives on the courts of Harbor Hills Country Club. As the area's premier clay court tennis facility, USTA league play, local high school home courts, tournaments, and charity events occur here throughout the year. Shortcourt tennis and pickleball are played on our Har-Tru surface. This high-performance clay is easy on the knees and excellent, especially for older players. As a result, pickleball players who might have struggled on a hard surface can extend their years of playing enjoyment.

The Sixth Annual Tennis Doubles Championships, sponsored by the Harbor Hills Racquet Association, is the major news. Self-scheduled round-robin matches took place from October to March, culminating in playoffs in April across three divisions: Ladies doubles, Men’s doubles, and Mixed doubles. The top four teams in each division competed in the semi-finals, and the winners faced off for the Club Championship. Congratulations to Ladies Champs Janet Snider and Ellen Berosh; congratulations to The Maine-iacs, Gene Armbrister and Hank Chipman, on their three-peat in the Men's division; and congratulations to Denise Collier and Gary Davison on their upset victory over Mixed doubles defending champs, KP Palmer and Hank Chipman.
