LABOR DAY CELEBRATION IN HARBOR HILLS BY NIKKI HOFFMAN

LABOR DAY GOLF TOURNAMENT

The first Monday in September is Labor Day. This special day honors the American labor movement and pays tribute to the working men and women who help our economy prosper. It originated in 1882 as a “Workingman’s Holiday” honoring our country’s industrial foundation.

Harbor Hills Country Club members and guests are celebrating Labor Day in style. Red, white, and blue decorated carts will make their way down the picturesque fairways in a four-person scramble.  A traditional Labor Day cookout follows. Golf and lunch are $35 for members and $75 for guests. Lunch-only is $30 per person.

Harbor Hills Country Club is the proud host of the 26th Annual Lake-Sumter State College Athletic Golf Classic on Friday, September 12. The event raises money for the athletic program. Head Men’s and Women’s Golf Coach Meredith Yaun became the first Head Men’s and Women’s Golf Coach in August 2024. She’s a graduate of Florida International University. In 1986, she won the Bowring Ladies Scottish Open and became the only American to win the tournament to date. To participate or sponsor a golfer, contact Yaun at yaunm@lssc.edu.

The Harbor Hills Racquet Association sponsors the Seventh Annual Harbor Hills Tennis Double Championship. Self-scheduled round-robin matches are played from October to March. Playoffs are in April in three divisions: Ladies' doubles, Men’s doubles, and Mixed doubles. The top four teams in each division play semi-finals in front of cheering fans, and the winners play for the Club Championship. All levels of play are welcome. Watch this column for more details later this month.
