HEATHER OAKS FARM IS A HARBOR HILLS FAVORITE BY NIKKI HOFFMAN

Farm-Fresh and fabulous! Looking for locally grown goodness just minutes from Harbor Hills? Head over to Heather Oaks Farm! Bob and Maria Tracy have created a warm, welcoming spot at 4240 Christmas Lane, where you’ll find nutritious produce that tastes like it came straight from the farm of your childhood.

The Tracy family owns and operates the farm, which grows seasonal blueberries and grapes that you can pick yourself. The honor system allows customers to select produce and leave their payment on the front porch. Throughout the year, Bob and Maria cultivate tomatoes, kale, squash, peas, and lettuce using an aquaponics system. Maria explains that this eco-friendly method uses less water and provides more nutrition than traditional farming.

Customers can place orders for aquaponic vegetables, which will be ready in about two weeks. The local honey is a favorite. Farm-fresh eggs are plentiful and available daily. Maria insists on buying certified organic feed for her chickens. “Conventional feed is cheaper,” she says, “but may contain additives or antibiotics.” Harbor Hills residents enjoy the fresh monthly selections and invite you to try them too. Maria can be reached for egg orders at 352-516-4986.

Congratulations to Bo Wroten, Michael Johnson, Kevin Kenney, and Brad White, the winners of the recent Miss Lake County Scholarship Golf Tournament. The foursome donated their winnings back to the scholarship fund, which raised $6,000. Thanks also to Tom Leimberger and the staff at Harbor Hills for their efforts in making the event a huge success once again this year.
